At African Tales, every purchase gives back to the planet. For each collar sold, we plant spekboom on a farm in Noordhoek — helping restore the land while offsetting carbon in a meaningful, local way.

This initiative is deeply personal. With a background in Environmental Science, I had the opportunity to study carbon sequestration in the Eastern Cape, focusing specifically on spekboom. What stood out was just how powerful this plant is — widely regarded as one of the most effective natural carbon sinks in the world.

Spekboom has the remarkable ability to absorb large amounts of carbon dioxide while also restoring degraded landscapes, improving soil quality, and supporting biodiversity. It’s resilient, regenerative, and uniquely suited to South African ecosystems — making it the perfect choice for this project.

By planting spekboom for every sale, we’re not just creating beautiful products — we’re contributing to something bigger: restoring balance, supporting local environments, and building a more sustainable future, one collar at a time.
